Operational Update
Service Restoration & Person-In-Charge Info

Date: February 25, 2005    From: Don Cushine

Here is an update on several operational issues.

Pacific Surfliner and Coast Starlight Service Update, February 24, 2005 Since January 7, 2005, several portions of the UPRR between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles have been out of service due to weather related track damage. These track outages affected the operation of the Pacific Surfliner service and the Coast Starlight.

The UPRR has advised us that the railroad between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles will be reopened by the early morning of Friday, February 25, 2005.

On Friday, February 25, 2005, the UPRR expects to perform additional track work, laying ballast, aligning track and clearing up several standing UPRR freight trains.

The result of the work to this point, and the work to take place on February 25, 2005, is that the UPRR railroad will be returned to service for Amtrak Passenger train operations on Saturday, February 26, 2005.

Pacific Surfliner Service

On February 26, 2005, Pacific Surfliner service will resume normal operation between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, except for trains 774(26) and 768(26), which will both originate in Los Angeles. Connecting bus service will operate for these two trains on February 26, 2005.

On February 27, 2005, we expect all Pacific Surfliner service to resume normal operation.

Coast Starlight Service

Coast Starlight service is also expected to resume normal operation on Tuesday, March 1, 2005. Train 11(28), through Emeryville on March 1, 2005, will be the first southbound Coast Starlight to operate through to Los Angeles. Train 14 originating on March 1, 2005, will be the first northbound Coast Starlight to originate in Los Angeles.

Person-In-Charge

Recently, we have tried to contact several individuals that were identified as the person-in-charge on the pnr during their trips. However, these individuals were not on the trip at all. The purpose for this process is to identify the contact person, in-charge, who is in fact, on the private car for that specific trip. In the future, please be sure that this person is named correctly.
