Congratulations!

We would like to extend our congratulations to AAPRCO on their 30th annual convention that was held this past week in Omaha, NE. Although there were some challenges on the outbound portion of the journey to this year’s convention, it was a very successful event. Special thanks to convention chairman Mike Margrave, Bart Barton, Jim Larson, Mike Kelly, Taylor Johnson, Roger Schmorr, Jack Heard, Tom McOwen, Diane Elliott and AAPRCO’s remaining officers and members./

Canadian Travel

Several requirements have changed regarding travel into and returning from Canada as a result of heightened security measures. We are now required to submit to US and Canadian Customs, the following information:

  • Full Name, Birth Date & Gender Identification Method
  • Drivers License Number (State Issued and Expiration)
  • Passport Number (Country of Origin and Expiration Date)
  • Birth Certificate (State or Country of Birth)
  • You Must Also Identify Any Traveler Who Has A Felony

    This information will be kept confidential and all of these type of requests should only be submitted to Billie Ernest. This information is required by the Canadian and US Customs officials and all travel into and returning from Canada is subject to their approval. If possible, please adhere to the two week notification for car movement as this greatly increases the administrative processing of these moves and it is very time consuming./

    Portland, OR */

    There is no longer a switch engine or crew at Portland, OR. Therefore, we have the following criteria for moves into and from this location:

  • Train #11 – Can travel to PDX, however, cannot be added departing PDX
  • Train #14 – Can travel to PDX, however, cannot be added departing PDX
  • Train #27 – Can travel to PDX
  • Train #28 – Can be added at PDX

    * Special Events will be considered on a case by case basis.



    Grand Luxe Limited Service

    This fall, Grand Luxe Rail Journeys (formerly AOE) will operate 22 trips on the rear of regularly scheduled Amtrak service trains. This will be accomplished using the California Zephyr, Southwest Chief and Silver Meteor routes. This service will consist of adding 7 cars to these consists (4 sleepers, 1 diner, 1 lounge and 1 crew car). The first positioning trip originates out of Denver on October 30th and the first regular run will occur on November 2nd from Oakland to Chicago. The trips will operate through January 3rd with the equipment returning to Denver on January 7th. Please see the attached schedule for the days of operation.
