There is always a potential for danger on the water and the Bainbridge Island Boater Fair promotes safe boating practices.

Fort Ward Amateur Radio Club wants to ensure your safety on the water, as well those around you, it is important that Bainbridge Island Boaters be familiar with state laws related to vessel operation. Know the proper way about:

  • Navigational Rules For Different Types Of Watercrafts,

  • Steps For Handling Bad Weather (SKYWARN), and
  • Boating Emergencies Practices.

NO ONE may operate a vessel on the waters of Washington state while impaired or intoxicated through the consumption of either alcohol, drugs or medication drizzeness.

Life jackets are required under the following circumstances:

  • All vessels (including canoes and kayaks) must have at least one U.S.Coast Guard approved life jacket for each person on board.

  • Vessels 16 feet or longer must have one U.S. Coast Guard approved flotation device on board. Canoes and kayaks are exempt from this requirement.

Local county sheriff’s departments and some police departments also have life jackets to loan.

Fort Ward Amateur Radio Club, is working to bring back a WWII Minesweeper that was built in Eagle Harbor at the Winslow Marine Railway and Ship Building Company. This historical Bainbridge Island ship would become a Naval Museum Ship in motion, a historical landmark in Eagle Harbor were it was built in 1940's. It is part of US Navy Program, that provides decommissionedd reserve fleet ships to counties. AM-239 is currently in Philippine Navy waiting decommissioning, at which time diplomatic communication will established to bring AM-239 Minesweeper back to its orginal port Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge Island, Washington State.
