LOS ANGELES NATIONAL TRAIN DAY
CELEBRATION COMMEMORATES

142 years of Rail passenger services coast to coast as the transcontinental Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways came together on May 10, 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, the "golden spike" was driven into the final tie that joined 1,776 miles.



Celebrate Los Angeles train travel, experiences, history and the ways trains are involved in daily lives of the Los Angeles People. The event festivities will highlight the unique perspective railways and passengers enjoy in the vastness and beauty of the American Railway Landscape, from cities to towns across California and the Great North American Continent Vistas.

Amtrak Los Angeles Union Station will host the 2012 event celebration. The events will feature live entertainment, interactive exhibits and educational activities about our "Nations Railways To Future", as well as, fun activities for the entire family.

Los Angeles National Train Day will also bring the ‘railway’ and "Rail Line Community Journey" to life for attendees, and those participating online and through social media.

    The celebration will feature live entertainment, interactive and educational exhibits, kids' activities, model trains, tours of Amtrak freight and commuter trains, and notable private railroad cars.

    Los Angeles, California Contributions

    The celebration will feature and exhibit showcasing archived photos, facts and stories about the 19th century Chinese contribution in the development of the railroad. Exhibit include featuring the 21 California Missions along the El Camino Real (The Royal Highway), a California Mission Docent will speak about the history of the Missions connection to the railroad.

    The celebration will feature Amtrak representative speak about current travel routes and State of California Partnership Displays about locally-focused exhibit & displays how railroad-partnerships with each state to provide specialized service.

    The celebration will feature an optional tour through the Chicago Hub facilities to show how today's trains are prepared to meet the record-breaking numbers of passengers.

    The celebration will feature family fun by creating party decorations, engaging in fun arts-n-crafts, playing interactive games and surprise giveaways throughout the day.

    Los Angeles, California National Train Day Association herein establishes Citywide Rail Line Community National Train Day Events, under the National Train Day Resolution established goals that contribute to enrichment of rail line community of Los Angeles, California toward our mission and organizational development:

  • To use Los Angeles, California National Train Day Association to promote increase knowledge and understanding of Los Angeles, California rail line community, as in railway arts, literature, culture and railway transportation importance to our economy, including our connection to National Railway System;

  • To use Los Angeles, California National Train Day Association to develop a "Awareness of Los Angeles, California Rail Line Community" and importances of passenger and freight services throughout California Rail Line Communities;

  • To use Los Angeles, California National Train Day Association to expand all Rail Line Communities National Train Day Events in State of California by: education, citizens awareness, business opportunities, technical research applications and mutual understandings within our local, regional, national and private railway servives.

    WHEREAS, the United States of America has made a considerable financial commitment to expanding the nation’s high-speed and intercity passenger rail (HSIPR) network, appropriating $4 billion in FY-09 for both state corridor development efforts and Amtrak state of good repair investments in the FY-10 Consolidated Appropriations Act; and

    WHEREAS, the President and Vice-President announced in January 2010 an additional $8 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) awards for 13 corridors in 31 states. (YOUR STATE) being granted (YOUR STATE FUNDING) million for (YOUR COMMUNITY) High Speed Rail Services including public and private funds being awarded to (YOUR COMMUNITY) Station Renovation Project as historical place of interest.

    WHEREAS, the Federal Railroad Administration received applications requesting seven times the available funds for the HSIPR ARRA grants; and

    WHEREAS, developing this pipeline of national high-speed and intercity passenger rail projects will revitalize the domestic manufacturing industry and create additional American jobs building on the one million good-paying, middle-class creating American jobs that can never be off-shored already supported by the rail industry; and

    WHEREAS, Washington State and (YOUR COMMUNITY) ridership on Amtrak and private rail services grew every year from 2000 through 2008, and are on track in 2011 for its best ridership year ever, further demonstrating the increased demand for Washington State intercity passenger rail services; and

    WHEREAS, (YOUR COMMUNITY), (YOUR STATE)is highly populated region for Amtrak Services and Private rail infrastructure carry intercity passengers and (YOUR LOCAL COMMUNTER RAIL) to and (YOUR CITY) Light Rail from work in congested metropolitan areas, providing a reliable rail option while reducing congestion on roads and in the skies; and

    WHEREAS, Amtrak annually provides intercity passenger rail travel to over 25 million Americans residing in 46 states; and

    WHEREAS, for many rail line communities in America, Amtrak represents the only major intercity transportation link to the rest of the country; and

    WHEREAS, (YOUR COMMUNITY), (YOUR STATE) passenger rail provides a more fuel-efficient transportation system thereby providing cleaner transportation alternatives and energy security; and

    WHEREAS, when combined with all modes of transportation, passenger railroads emit only 0.2 percent of the travel industry’s total greenhouse gases and one freight train can move a ton of freight 457 miles on one gallon of fuel; and

    WHEREAS, in the City of (YOUR COMMUNITY), (YOUR STATE), long distance train ridership exceeds (YOUR STATISTIC) passengers, (YOUR INTRASTATE AMTRAK SERVICES ) exceeds (YOUR STATE STATISTICS) passengers, (YOUR STATE)Transit commuter Rail ridership rose (YOUR STATE STATISTICS) and light rail ridership exceeds (YOUR STATE STATISTICS) passengers got on and off the train at (YOUR CITY) Station.
