PORTLAND NATIONAL TRAIN DAY
CELEBRATION COMMEMORATES

142 years of rail passenger services coast to coast as the transcontinental Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways came together on May 10, 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, the "golden spike" was driven into the final tie that joined 1,776 miles.

    Oregon National Train Day Association herein establishes Statewide Rail Line Community National Train Day Events, under the National Train Day Resolution established goals that contribute to enrichment of rail line communities of State of Oregon toward our mission and organizational development:

  • To use Oregon National Train Day Association to promote increase knowledge and understanding of State of Oregon rail line community, as in railway arts, literature, culture and railway transportation importance to our economy, including our connection to National Railway System;

  • To use Oregon National Train Day Association to develop a "Awareness of State of Oregon Rail Line Communities" and importances of passenger and freight services throughout Oregon Rail Line Communities;

  • To use Oregon National Train Day Association to expand all Rail Line Communities National Train Day Events in State of Oregon by: education, citizens awareness, business opportunities, technical research applications and mutual understandings within our local, regional, national and private railway servives.

  • To build upon a framework of past and present technological advancements towards achieving a better environmental utilization of our railways that benefits each citizen's requirements for transportation needs in a green environment less dependent on fossil fuels thru National Train Day Celebration in State of Oregon.

    DURING PORTLAND'S RAILWAY TRANSPORTATION MONTH and during Portland's Railway Transportation Day, all State Oregon Railways, including All Railroads and North American Continent Railway Systems, Private and Public Passenger are encourage to board trains of all kinds past and present traveling to the "YOUR CITY'S THEME" in Portland, Oregon. Celebrate with the citizen of Portland how modern railway transportation has transformed this city and recognize the men and women who have contributed to its progress. As the City of Portland renews the commitment to increasing railway transportation productivity and commerce of all kinds to keeping City of Portland railway transportation system on the leading edge of importance as the "YOUR CITY'S THEME".

    CITY OF PORTLAND'S CENTURY OF RAILWAY TRANSPORTATION system of commerce and productivity transports our citizens and delivers a wide range of goods throughout the State of Oregon to the Nations of the North American Continent and the world imports and exports. In times of national and state concerns of the century, the railway transportation system also moved troops, passengers and carried materials and general cargo in war, in disasters, in peace time tranquilly efficiently and effectively. The City of Poertland's Heritage in preserving and enhancing the next railway century of transportation systems. Rail line community commerce resources makes the railway infrastructure, to facilitates growth in business and industry, creates employment opportunities, secures the State of Oregon future, and improves the quality of life for citizens of Portland, Oregon and all rail line communities served.

    TO SUSTAIN PORTLAND'S RAILWAY HERITAGE & FUTURE ADVANTAGES,must continue to invest in Portland's and improve all rail line communities in Oregon's railway transportation systems. By enhancing existing rail line community tracks, rail yard, locomotives, freight and passenger railcars, with connecting transit centers to highways, waterways, and airports, to improve fuel-efficiency and locomotive emissions reduction. The City of Portland, Oregon has the determination to foster railway programs and services to work towards improving all kinds of railway commerce, protecting the city's environment, and furthering State of Oregon railway economy.

    AS PART OF PORTLAND'S RAILWAY EFFORTS,the city has announced initiative to reverse the growing dependence on oil by developing all transportation technology and services (including railway services). To produce commercially accepted bio fuels, encourage the development hydrogen fuel cells, to power the new generation of automobiles and trucks with no air pollution emissions. The City's new policy commitment make railway transportation possible for new and emerging business opportunities to be recognized, that allow the citizens of Portland great flexibility in freight and passenger choices, methods and vehicles of transportation, whether by engineering design of automobiles, passenger ship and boats, airplane or railway services.

    THE GREAT "YOUR CITY'S HERO" is the name honored by citizens of Portland for the spirit is still alive, working towards strengthening environmental protections throughout city by improving railway transportation systems and services. Railway Transportation was designed to increase mobility of citizens while maintaining the flow of freight goods and passenger services crossing Portland connecting rail line communities; our comprehensive city transportation plan includes improving railroad and railway infrastructure and services of all kinds. Portland is a "YOUR CITY'S THEME" to make "YOUR CITY'S HERO proud that Portland has become a "YOUR CITY'S THEME". By this spirit of Portland welcomes historical or new, of all kinds, passenger and freight, private railcars, railway event and tour, corporate, steam power, and museum trains from all parts of the North American Continent or the world to signal train's conductor's call: "ALL BOARD" next stop "YOUR CITY'S THEME".

    WHEREAS, the United States of America has made a considerable financial commitment to expanding the nation’s high-speed and intercity passenger rail (HSIPR) network, appropriating $4 billion in FY-09 for both state corridor development efforts and Amtrak state of good repair investments in the FY-10 Consolidated Appropriations Act; and

    WHEREAS, the President and Vice-President announced in January 2010 an additional $8 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) awards for 13 corridors in 31 states. North Dakota being granted (YOUR STATE FUNDING) million for Jamestown Rail Services Studies including public and private funds being awarded to (YOUR COMMUNITY) Station Renovation Project as historical place of interest.

    WHEREAS, the Federal Railroad Administration received applications requesting seven times the available funds for the HSIPR ARRA grants; and

    WHEREAS, developing this pipeline of national high-speed and intercity passenger rail projects will revitalize the domestic manufacturing industry and create additional American jobs building on the one million good-paying, middle-class creating American jobs that can never be off-shored already supported by the rail industry; and

    WHEREAS, Washington State and (YOUR COMMUNITY) ridership on Amtrak and private rail services grew every year from 2000 through 2008, and are on track in 2011 for its best ridership year ever, further demonstrating the increased demand for Washington State intercity passenger rail services; and

    WHEREAS, (YOUR COMMUNITY), (YOUR STATE)is highly populated region for Amtrak Services and Private rail infrastructure carry intercity passengers and (YOUR LOCAL COMMUNTER RAIL) to and (YOUR CITY) Light Rail from work in congested metropolitan areas, providing a reliable rail option while reducing congestion on roads and in the skies; and

    WHEREAS, Amtrak annually provides intercity passenger rail travel to over 25 million Americans residing in 46 states; and

    WHEREAS, for many rail line communities in America, Amtrak represents the only major intercity transportation link to the rest of the country; and

    WHEREAS, (YOUR COMMUNITY), (YOUR STATE) passenger rail provides a more fuel-efficient transportation system thereby providing cleaner transportation alternatives and energy security; and

    WHEREAS, when combined with all modes of transportation, passenger railroads emit only 0.2 percent of the travel industry’s total greenhouse gases and one freight train can move a ton of freight 457 miles on one gallon of fuel; and

    WHEREAS, in the City of (YOUR COMMUNITY), (YOUR STATE), long distance train ridership exceeds (YOUR STATISTIC) passengers, (YOUR INTRASTATE AMTRAK SERVICES ) exceeds (YOUR STATE STATISTICS) passengers, (YOUR STATE)Transit commuter Rail ridership rose (YOUR STATE STATISTICS) and light rail ridership exceeds (YOUR STATE STATISTICS) passengers got on and off the train at (YOUR CITY) Station. Making (YOUR STATE & CITY) (YOUR CITY EVENT THEME) ; and

    WHEREAS, (YOUR COMMUNITY)Railroad Station is a source of civic pride, a gateway to (YOUR STATE) Rail Line Communities and Nations long distance trains, including connecting private rail services, including a tool for economic growth that creates transportation-oriented development and livable rail line communities; and

    WHEREAS, on May 10, 1869 the “golden spike” was driven into the final tie at Promontory Summit, Utah to join the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroads, ceremonially completing the first transcontinental railroad and therefore connecting both coasts of the United States;
